5 Styling Secrets to Creating The Perfect Tablescape

Updated: Nov 4, 2022

Are you looking to create that perfect tablescape that will wow your guests?

1. Stay Consistent

First things first, it's important to have a clear "vision" and colour palette in mind for your wedding. What is the vibe you want to achieve? Whether your vision is modern, bohemian or glamour, you want your tablescape to flow with the other elements of your day - right from your ceremony to your evening reception.

Top Tip: Have you created a mood board? This will help you capture your overall vision and colour scheme. Click here to download our Mood Board Template.

2. Create Layers

Adding a mixture of different layers will give your table setting depth and detail. How do you create layers?

You can build layers through table runners, charger plates, napkins, glassware, cutlery, place cards, florals and candles.

3. Add Texture

Texture is a great way to add dimension and warmth to your table.

This can be achieved in the form of a table runner, placemats, and napkins. Texture appeals to our sense of touch which brings us a feeling of calm. Consider playing with a blend of soft cotton and linen, and/or more rugged textures like burlap. Even just a simple velvet ribbon tied around each napkin at each setting is such a sweet way to incorporate more texture.

4. Play with Heights

Using different heights on your tablescape can create the illusion of making the room feel fuller. To incorporate height think about floral arrangements, table numbers and votives.

5. Keep it Practical

As much as we want it to look beautiful it also needs to be practical for your guests! Here are some things to consider;

  • Table Width: Think about your centrepieces and ensure your essential items; glassware, cutlery, and charger plates, fit perfectly without looking over cramped.

  • Centrepiece Height: Make sure your centrepieces are an appropriate height so that your guests can see one another without breaking their necks.
